Children & Families

"Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.”

Mark 10:14

Children & Worship

We are so happy to welcome you and your family to our worship service. Kids Belong Here! We love the sound of children, including their noise, laughter and busy-ness. We love the presence of YOUR children in our church!

Here are a few ways to help your child engage in worship:

Relax. It’s okay for kids to be kids here.

Sit close. Sitting near the front can help children see and follow what’s happening.

Explain. Quietly share what is happening in the service and why.

Join in. When children see you singing, praying, and participating, they learn how to worship too.

Need a break? Sometimes kids need a moment. Feel free to step out if needed and know you are always welcome to return.

For families who prefer it, extended care is available during the service for children 1st grade and younger. This option is offered for parent convenience, but children are always welcome in worship.

Sunday School, 9:30am

Children are welcomed into a sacred circle each Sunday morning where we hear a Godly Play story, enter into wondering together, and respond through art and reflection. We end our time by gathering for a simple feast before returning to the larger church family for worship.

Godly Play mirrors the flow of worship in the sanctuary, helping children experience and participate in the life of the church in meaningful ways.

What is Godly Play?

Godly Play, created by Jerome Berryman, is a Montessori-based approach to children’s faith formation that invites children to enter the stories of Scripture through storytelling, wondering, and creative response. Rather than giving children all the answers, Godly Play creates space for them to explore, ask questions, and discover God’s presence in their own lives.

We invite children to come join the circle on Sundays at 9:30 AM and Wednesdays at 6:00 PM — to listen, to wonder, to create, and to discover that they have a place in God’s story.

Youth Group

Youth meet on Sundays at 9:30 AM and Wednesdays at 6:00 PM to grow deeper in their faith and in community with one another. Through studying Scripture and discussing the real-life issues teens encounter every day, we create a safe space for questions, growth, and discipleship. Youth are invited to respond not only through conversation, but through creative expression as well, using art as a way to reflect, process, and engage God’s Word. They are also actively involved in serving our community, putting their faith into action through mission opportunities and outreach.

Summer Camp

Summer at Glen Lake Camp and Retreat Center is one of the highlights of the year for our children and youth. Surrounded by God’s beautiful creation, campers experience joyful worship, outdoor adventures, new friendships, and meaningful moments of faith. It’s a place where laughter is loud, faith grows deeper, and young people return home inspired and encouraged in their walk with Christ.

MinistrySafe

The safety and well-being of children is a top priority at FUMC Mexia. All volunteers and staff who serve with children complete background checks and are certified through MinistrySafe. MinistrySafe is a child safety system designed specifically for churches and ministries that provides training and screening to help prevent abuse and ensure safe environments for children. Through these practices, we are committed to creating a place where children and families can feel safe, valued, and cared for.

Open Hearts. Open Minds. Open Doors.
