Who We Are…

Our Mission

The mission of First United Methodist Church of Mexia is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world, the shared mission of congregations across the United Methodist Church and the Horizon Texas Conference. This mission is our grace-filled response to the reign of God in the world, embodied in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ and experienced today in the ongoing creation of a new people by the Holy Spirit.

Our Vision

We are followers of Jesus seeking the loving, just and

free world God imagines for all people.

Our Strategic Priorities

Multiplying Jesus Followers

We are committed to nurturing and multiplying followers of Jesus. Through baptism, confirmation, welcoming new members, and growing together in faith, we celebrate the ways people are continually being drawn deeper into life with Christ. As disciples, we are also called to share the good news beyond our walls, sharing God’s love in our community and inviting others to walk in the way of Jesus.

Championing Children & Youth

Children and youth are at the heart of our ministry. We are committed to creating spaces where young people are known, loved, and invited to grow in faith. Through programs like Godly Play, youth gatherings, partnerships with our preschool, and community events, we nurture the spiritual lives of children and families and celebrate the ways God is already at work in them.

Pursuing and Embracing Diversity

The church is strongest and most reflects the kingdom of God when people from many backgrounds worship, serve, and learn together. We seek to build relationships across our community and celebrate the diversity of God’s people. Through shared worship, community partnerships, and a spirit of hospitality, we strive to reflect the loving, just, and welcoming kingdom of God.

Maximizing Care and Healing

God has called us to be a people of compassion, care, and restoration. We seek to walk alongside people in times of grief, struggle, and need. Through prayer, support groups, outreach ministries, and everyday acts of kindness, we share Christ’s healing presence with our congregation and our wider community.

Telling Our Story

God is at work in our church and in our community, and we believe those stories matter. We are committed to sharing the ways we see God moving in worship, service, and everyday life. By telling our story through conversation, invitation, and communication, we help others see the love and hope found in following Jesus.

Prioritizing

Spiritual Renewal

Creating intentional spaces for prayer, reflection, and spiritual growth is an important part of our life together. Through weekly Centering Prayer and our annual winter retreat at Cedarbrake, we invite one another to slow down, listen for God, and grow deeper in faith.
